Preparing for Cyclone Vaianu

Multiple weather warnings are in effect – the Coromandel expects damaging winds, heavy rain, high surf and coastal inundation

The Ōpoutere Community Response Group has been making preparations for the arrival of Cyclone Vaianu this Sunday. The group is in contact with the Thames Coromandel District Council Civil Defence team and our local fire unit who will support the Ohui and Ōpoutere community through the coming weather event.

If you are in Ōpoutere at the moment please be aware that the extreme weather could cause power and internet outages and that the roads out of Opoutere could be closed due to flooding/slips/fallen trees.
If you have visitors using your property it is important that they know about this risk and to stock up on basic supplies if they intend to stay.
